Dr Thusharika Dissanayaka (Thush)
PhD, MPhil, BSc In Physiotherapy (Hons)

Thush earned her Physiotherapy degree in 2011 and continued to excel in her field by completing her PhD at Monash University in 2021. She also holds a Master's degree in Physiotherapy and teaches anatomy, physiotherapy, and falls prevention in the elderly to undergraduate health science students.
​
With experience in private practice, Thush has a particular interest in treating musculoskeletal conditions across all age groups, especially those involving the spine and lower limbs. She focuses on:

Hands-on therapy, including manual therapy, dry needling, and soft tissue release, to relieve pain and restore mobility.

Rehabilitation programs, incorporating exercise prescription and strength training, to support long-term recovery and injury prevention.

Use of advanced technology, such as ultrasound and TENS, to enhance treatment effectiveness and accelerate healing.

What conditions do you treat?We treat a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, joint issues, neurological disorders, and chronic pain conditions. If you're unsure whether physiotherapy is right for you, contact us, and we’ll be happy to discuss your needs.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?No, you don't need a referral to see a physiotherapist. However, if you are referred on a Chronic Disease Management Program, this referral will need to be brought in person to your initial appointment.

What should I expect during my first visit?During your first visit, we’ll conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Based on this, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan to address your specific needs. Please note that we do not currently offer pelvic health assessments; however, this service will be available in the future.

How long does a typical physiotherapy session last?A session lasts around 30 minutes

What should I bring to my appointment?Please bring any relevant medical records and imaging results (like X-rays or MRIs). Comfortable clothing and any referral letters or insurance information are also helpful.

Do you offer telehealth or online consultations?Yes, we offer telehealth consultations for patients who are unable to visit in person. This service allows us to guide you through exercises, answer questions, and provide care remotely.

Do you accept health insurance, and how does it work?Yes, depending on your health insurance policy, you may be eligible for a rebate on your treatment. Our clinic offers HICAPS, allowing you to claim your health fund rebate on-site, so you only need to pay the gap.
